IT advice after equipment issues resolved
06 October 2022
The University's Digital Technology Services (DTS) team is reminding colleagues not to download any software without approval, and issued advice for anyone continuing to experience equipment issues.
Some University computers were affected on Wednesday 5 October after DTS reacted to a user downloading some problem software. This caused some computers to freeze or experience other problems.
DTS has dealt with the incident. No teaching is thought to have been affected and all users are now back on the network.
What are we doing now?
As of this morning the majority of computers are back up with no adverse effect.
Investigations continue, and we will be reviewing policies and procedures to strengthen our protection.
What to do if you, or someone you know, is affected
Restart your computer: If you can, restart normally. Network connections and programmes will restore. You may need to do this more than once.
Hard reboot your computer: Hold down the power button until you get the start screen. This can take up to 30 seconds, and you may need to do it more than once.
Unplug and plug your computer dock back in if you are having trouble reconnecting to the network on campus.
Remember!
Don’t install anything on your computer without authorisation from DTS.
Don’t click on any links unless you have checked them first.
Use the DTS Status Hub to find out the current state of services. You can access this from any device.
Further information and advice can be found on the Cyber Security hub.
