Footpath and road closures for tree works
29 November 2022
A number of pedestrian routes and roads on Whiteknights campus will be closed for tree works at certain times over the next month.
The closures are to allow pruning and the removal of diseased or decayed trees and will take place between 30 November and 30 December 2022.
Closures and planned tree works:
- Wessex Hall footpath - Footpath adjacent to large Cedar tree at edge of path closed from Wednesday 30 November-Friday 2 December for crown reduction work as part of ongoing management.
- Friends Bridge footpath - Pruning of trees next to footpath between Friends Bridge and Brian Hoskins building week commencing 12 December. Path will remain open.
- Black Bridge - Closure of Black Bridge on Thursday 15 December until approx. 10am for tree pruning.

- Childs Hall to Fox Hill Drive - Road from the foot path leading to Broad Oak place to Fox House Drive closed on Friday 16 December for tree removal at the edge of the road opposite Quainton and Ruscombe House. The Gate giving access to Whiteknights road will be open to keep access to Foxhill House.
- North of Hopkins Building - Road between RSSL exit and the Friends Bridge foot path closed on Monday 19 December for crown reduction on veteran Oak tree on the corner of the road to reduce risk of damage in severe weather.
Other tree removal work:
- Chancellor’s Building - Removal of Ash trees surrounding Chancellors building during Christmas closure period (27-30 December). This decision has been taken reluctantly due to Ash dieback being now established on our campuses, increasing the risk of falling branches.
- London Road Campus - Removal of large Cedar tree on the north boundary near to London Road itself due to basal decay. Large Ash tree next to it also to be removed due to decline caused by Ash dieback. Work scheduled during Christmas closure period (27-30 December). The Grounds team will be taking the opportunity to remove the planting beneath and replace with mixed native tree and shrub species. Part of the Cedar will be left as standing dead wood.
