New process for implementing change
29 November 2022
The University’s change management process has been updated and relaunched, supporting anyone overseeing and managing major and mid-level projects as they communicate changes to colleagues, students and the wider community.
Fresh ideas and new ways of doing things are part of life at the University, but it’s important to make sure that people affected by those changes are properly supported and understand what it means for them.
The updated change management process is accompanied by templates and support to anyone overseeing significant change.
The templates help frame new ideas and the process allows colleagues to gather essential feedback from colleagues before initiatives are submitted for approval.
The Change Improvement Group oversees the process, helping ensure that projects are sustainable and complement other new developments at the University.
How do I know if I should use the new process?
Colleagues overseeing mid-range and major projects that are likely to have an impact beyond their team should refer to the process as early as possible – ideally before developing the idea.
If you’re not sure, read the guidance or contact the Change and Continuous Improvement Team for advice.
A new Q&A section has been launched on the Change Management Website which answers some of the common questions received about the change management process so far.
Richard Messer, University Secretary and Chair of the Change Improvement Group, said: “We have undergone a great deal of change over the last few years and that pace of change is unlikely to let up.
“This makes it so important we manage change as well as possible, both for the welfare of us all and to ensure that what we take on is manageable and effective.”
