Opportunities to join the University Council

Applications to stand for election to the University Council for academic members of the Leadership Group and colleagues in Professional Services are now invited.
The Council is the University's executive governing body and meets at least four times during each academic year. It sets the University's strategic direction, ensures compliance with statutory requirements and approves constitutional changes.
There are two vacancies arising on the Council for a period of three years from the following classes of membership:
Academic members of the Leadership Group
A member of the Leadership Group is invited to join the membership of the Council to serve for three years in the first instance from 3 February 2023. The member is to be drawn from the academic roles within the Leadership Group, namely:
- Dean of Postgraduate Research Studies and Research Development
- Dean for Diversity and Inclusion
- Heads of School
- Research Deans
- Teaching and Learning Deans
If more than one candidate comes forward, an election will be held in which all members of the Leadership Group defined above would be eligible to vote.
Professional Services Staff employed in Grades 1 – 9
A member of Professional Services staff is invited to join the membership of the Council to serve for three years in the first instance from 1 January 2023. The member is to be drawn from among Professional Services Staff employed in Grades 1 – 9.
If more than one candidate comes forward, an election will be held in which all eligible members of Professional Services Staff (employed in Grades 1 – 9) would be able to vote.
Standing for election
If you would like to stand for election to the Council please submit a short manifesto of no more than 250 words by email to the Returning Officer (the University Secretary, Dr Richard Messer) no later than 12:00 on 25 November 2022.
