Could you support Reading’s School Streets?
25 May 2022
Just a short walk away from Whiteknights campus, Crescent Road is the latest local street to become a School Street – an area cordoned off from traffic to allow children to safely walk, cycle or scoot to school. Under the scheme, selected roads close to participating schools are closed off from traffic for up to 45 minutes at the beginning and end of the school day.
The Crescent Road School Street will provide a safe space for pupils travelling to Maiden Erlegh School, UTC Reading and Alfred Sutton Primary School.
School Streets rely on marshals to keep traffic away, which is where you could come in. Local volunteers are needed to help where they can – even signing up for an occasional shift could really make a difference. No experience is necessary and full training will be provided. The Crescent Road School Street will operate between 08:15-09:00 Nonday to Friday, potentially extending to afternoons between 14:45-15:30.
