Turing Scheme updates
22 March 2022
Two important updates regarding the Turing Scheme - ‘the UK’s global scheme to support study and work abroad’.
Current Scheme (2021-22)
Recent changes to terms and conditions mean Reading can apply for permission to use funds to support overseas activities lasting a minimum of 14 calendar days (reduced from 28 days requirement).
These activities must take place before 31 August 2022, at a host overseas University or Organisation (but not the University of Reading Malaysia) and be recognised by the University of Reading.
Activities may include:
- field trips (if hosted by an organisation)
- study placements
- work placement
- research trips
Students can be at undergraduate or postgraduate level. Priority for use of funds remains students from low-income households (annual income under £25k per annum).
If you are aware of any overseas activities planned within your School which meet these eligibility requirements, and you have students which might benefit from Turing funds, please contact Erasmus & Study Abroad Office at the earliest opportunity - either direct to Marcus Dowse or to the main Erasmus & Study Abroad Office.
Future Turing Scheme (2022-23)
The UK Government has an information campaign for new Turing Scheme 2022-23 ahead of opening applications for funding (29 March 2022). The Erasmus & Study Abroad Office will manage the application on behalf of the University of Reading.
The Erasmus & Study Abroad will soon be seeking information from Schools about planned activities which might be considered within the funding bid.
In advance of this, colleagues are invited to a short online presentation about the Turing Scheme 2022-23 on Tuesday 29 March at 13:00, followed by a Q&A. Colleagues can join the session via Teams – no need to pre-book.
Although open to all staff, it is particularly recommended for colleagues who are interested in student mobility and/or who are planning overseas activities next academic year, or who support students in School-based overseas activities.
The information session will be recorded, and available via Teams.
If you would like to submit any questions in advance – please email them to studyabroad@reading.ac.uk.
