Parking arrangements for graduation
27 June 2022
Our Summer 2022 graduation celebrations will be held on Tuesday 28 June-Friday 1 July, Tuesday 5-Wednesday 6 July and Tuesday 19-Friday 22 July this year.
We will be celebrating the achievements not only of our 2022 summer graduands but also our 2020 and 2021 summer cohorts, whose ceremony experience was delayed due to COVID-19. To provide adequate space for these larger numbers, celebratory activities will continue to take place in our Celebration Zone on our Whiteknights campus, rather than at London Road.
We will therefore be reserving car parks 1A through to 4 for Graduands and their guests at Whiteknights.
The Whitegates car park will also be reserved at the London Road campus, where the graduation ceremonies themselves will take place in the Great Hall.
As parking for colleagues on both campuses will be extremely limited on these days, we ask all other staff who work on the Whiteknights or London Road campuses, and who usually drive, to review their usual working and travel arrangements for graduation days.
Work from home
Colleagues who usually travel by car and who can effectively work from home are strongly encouraged to talk to their managers about working from home on the graduation days.
For those who need to come to campus and for whom driving is the only option, there will be parking available for staff in car parks 6 to 13 and our halls, on a first come, first served basis. Please car share with colleagues where you can.
There will always be parking space in the main campus car parks for disabled members of staff who hold a blue badge.
Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor said: "I would like to thank everyone who is working hard to make graduation a wonderful celebration for all our graduands, especially this summer, as we will be welcoming back so many people whose graduation experience was curtailed by Covid.
"Graduation is always an important event in the academic calendar, and this year even more so. It is really important that we make these graduation days as special as possible for such a large group of people.
"Therefore I would ask all colleagues, please do not drive to the Whiteknights or London Road campuses on graduation days, unless it is really necessary. I always encourage active travel whenever possible, such as cycling, walking, or public transport - train strikes allowing - or working from home, in agreement with your line manager. Please plan your working arrangements and meetings now around this."
