Chris Harty leaving University for new role
15 June 2022
Professor Chris Harty is leaving the University to join London South Bank University as its Dean of the School of the Built Environment and Architecture.
He has led the School of the Built Environment at University of Reading since August 2017.
The process to recruit a new Head of School will be initiated next week, with a starting date of 1 September 2022.
A Head of School is responsible for providing academic leadership and is a member of the University’s senior leadership group.
Head of School
Chris is a Professor of Technology and Organisation, and is well-known within the UK built environment sector.
His research focuses on the interactions between organisations, people and technology within the built environment and the potential impacts of new technologies on industry practice. He is currently Vice-chair of the Building Services Research and Information Association.
Announcing his decision, Chris said, “I have enjoyed my time as Head of School. The significant growth of the School of Architecture and an extremely positive recent REF outcome are certainly highlights, but perhaps most significant is the way the whole School has worked together to respond to the challenges of the last two years. I leave the School in a very positive position and with a bright future. I am sure it will continue to deliver success for the University.”
Mark Fellowes, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resource) said, “Chris has been a fantastic leader of the School of the Built Environment. He strongly advocates the expertise of the School and his colleagues, and how we can continue to make the most of this in our environmental and sustainability initiatives. I wish Chris the very best in his new role and know that he will make a positive impact in his new role.”
