Data Protection Day – Friday 28 January
28 January 2022
It’s Data Protection Day!
Friday 28 January is Data Protection Day and an opportunity for organisations across the globe to raise awareness and promote good practice in the area of data protection and privacy.
The Information Management and Policy Services (IMPS) team would like to take the opportunity to thank all colleagues across the University for the part everyone plays in keeping our University information safe and secure. We receive many enquiries every year, covering a broad and diverse range of subjects and activities. These range from ad hoc questions to involvement in larger projects and we are always here to assist with any queries you may have.
The IMPS site has recently been refreshed in order to make resources easier to locate and to help you find the information you need.
We have advice and resources available at IMPS' Data Protection webpages covering a number of subject areas, so you can take a ‘deeper dive’ into those that may be more relevant to your role. These include marketing, email, research, and recording. We would encourage all staff to refresh themselves on University's Information Compliance Policies and to familiarise themselves with how to report any data protection incidents to IMPS Data Breach Reporting.
A key part of protecting our information is ensuring that all staff have the resources and training they need, that key messages are communicated regularly, and that this training is refreshed. We are very conscious that everyone is extremely busy, so we are currently looking at how we can deliver short and simple refresher training content to all staff to keep everyone up to date. More information regarding this will follow later in the spring term.
The IMPS site also contains link to our Freedom of Information Publication scheme, where you can access publicly available information from across the University, including how we make decisions, financial information, and our policies and procedures.
In the meantime, if your School, department, or team would benefit from a focus session in any particular areas, please do get in touch and we would be happy to assist.
