Whiteknights water supply restored, campus open as normal
24 January 2022
Update: Monday 24 January (09:00)
The water supply to the Whiteknights campus has returned to normal and the campus is open.
Update: Friday 21 January (16:30)
Dear colleagues,
Our Estates team has successfully fixed the water main on Whiteknights campus, and the water supply is being restored. Water quality is unaffected and is safe to drink.
All affected buildings will reopen on Saturday 22 January as normal, including the Library and catering outlets.
Services that would usually be closed at the weekend, including Support Centres, will reopen on Monday as usual. All teaching and other activities will go ahead as normal on Monday.
Where teaching classes have been cancelled, Schools should please contact students about how missed teaching will be replaced.
I would like to thank the Estates team for spotting and resolving this issue so quickly.
Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Kind regards,

Original message: Friday 21 January (12:45)
Dear colleagues,
The Whiteknights campus (excluding Earley Gate) is being closed from 13:00 today, Friday 21 January. A fractured water main next Old Whiteknights House and the Estates building is affecting water supply. To investigate and repair this, the water supply to affected parts of campus needs to be turned off, which means we can no longer operate safely.
All buildings on Whiteknights campus will be shut, excluding those at Earley Gate, listed at end of email.
The Sportspark and Halls of Residence are not affected.
Colleagues working in affected buildings are asked to return home as soon as possible. Once buildings have been vacated, they will be closed. If you have work that can be delivered from home, please discuss this with your manager. If you have teaching this afternoon, please notify students through Blackboard that the class will be cancelled.
Staff and students, and in particular those with a disability, who need water and toilet facilities whilst they wait for transport home are welcome at the Sportspark on Whiteknights.
The London Road Support Centre will remain open until 17:00 as usual to help students and students can contact them on 0118 378 2608.
Work will start to fix the issue as soon as possible, and colleagues will be updating on progress through email and the Staff Portal. We apologise for the short notice of this message.

Kind regards,
Richard
