'Start-up' funding for Teaching and Learning Projects
15 February 2022
Our Teaching and Learning Enhancement Projects (TLEP) Scheme 2022 is now open for applications.
Based on the belief that small projects can be significant catalysts for enhancement and improvement, the scheme offers 'start-up' funding of between £500 and £2,500 to encourage and enable staff to experiment and/or develop practice across any area of teaching and learning. The scheme is open to all staff involved in teaching and/or supporting teaching and learning.
Visit the scheme page to view the criteria and guidance for applications, and the application form. The deadline for applications is 17:00 on Monday 4 April 2022. Funding will be made available to successful projects during the 2022/2023 financial year.
Last year’s winning projects included:
ITALIC (Integrated Teaching and Learning Insect Collection): “The ITALIC project aims to develop a new insect collection designed for use in teaching and outreach activities, as well as producing integrated online resources providing information on Reading's existing insect collections. The project is being driven by a dedicated team of enthusiastic student volunteers, drawn from multiple levels of study across different departments. Newly catalogued specimens are already being used to support entomology teaching in the School of Biological Sciences.” (Dr Chris Foster and Gaia Zwiers, School of Biological Sciences)
Tools to demystify and encourage student engagement with 1:1 academic interactions: “The perceptions of international students towards 1:1 academic support and identifying barriers to the take up of this provision has long been of interest to us. Upon a successful application to the TLEP scheme, we have led a targeted survey and focus group to better understand students’ awareness. This will lead to the creation of T & L materials to develop students’ confidence in engaging with support offered by module convenors, and academic writing consultations offered by the Academic English Programme.” (Sue Blackett, Henley Business School, and Vicky Collins, International Study and Language Institute)
