Update on UCU industrial action
01 February 2022
This message from Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort has been sent to all colleagues at the University
Dear colleagues,
I am writing to inform you that we have received a formal notification that the University and College Union (UCU) is asking its members to take a further seven days of strike action from Monday 14 February to Tuesday 22 February.
This follows the strike action taken in early December 2021 and relates to the UCU’s continuing dispute about the proposed changes to the USS pension scheme.
As I have said before, the significance of pension reform to colleagues is understandable. However, I am disappointed by this announcement of strike action as it will disrupt our students’ learning experience.
Our priority will be to minimise the impact of this action on our students and colleagues, and I have requested Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) Paul Inman to lead a Contingency Operations Group to put in place all reasonable measures to manage this.
Further information will follow, but you may like to refer to the information regarding the University’s expectations of those participating in strike action.
If you have any urgent questions, please contact our Human Resources Director John Brady or the HR Partner for your area.
Kind regards,
Robert
