Adrian Bell re-appointed Research Dean

Professor Adrian Bell has been re-appointed Research Dean for Prosperity and Resilience following a competitive recruitment process.
Adrian was appointed to this role in July 2018 and starts his new six-year term on 1 August 2022.
As Research Dean, he will work with the Pro-Vice-Chancellors (Research and Innovation) and other members of the University Committee for Research and Innovation (UCRI) to provide leadership and management for research.
Prior to being appointed the Research Dean, Professor Adrian Bell headed the ICMA Centre at Henley Business School, and he remains a Chair in the History of Finance there.
Prosperity & Resilience is one of the four research themes, which also include: Environment; Agriculture, Foodand Health; and Heritage & Creativity. It has 11 research divisions and nearly 200 researchers working on a wide range of cross-disciplinary projects, for instance, concerning inequalities and the future of work. The theme also places importance on community research and engagement with local partners, with a personal favourite of Adrian’s being links with Reading Football Club and the Berks and Bucks FA.

In his three years in the role, he has shown that he understands the needs and aspirations of our research community and has a proven track record of driving the quality, reach and visibility of our research”.
Professor Adrian Bell said, “I am delighted to have been re-appointed and my main aim will be to continue to build on the strong research culture within the theme. My aim is to scaffold ambitious research with an open and inclusive approach.

Unfortunately, the University was unable to appoint to the position of Research Dean (Environment) internally at this time. Therefore, this position will soon be re-advertised for both internal and external candidates.
