Remember to switch off this Christmas
16 December 2022
Colleagues are asked to make sure lights, computers, monitors and any other non-essential equipment is switched off for the Christmas break.
Last year, the University spent more than £100,000 on electricity alone over the winter closure period. With energy prices increasing, the same amount of electricity is likely to cost £165,000 this year.
Ahead of the University closing, please take a moment to consider what you can do to reduce energy costs and help the University with its environmental sustainability commitments at the same time.
If you identify issues which are preventing equipment being turned off, please report this to estates@reading.ac.uk or sustainability@reading.ac.uk or call the Estates Helpdesk on ext. 7000.
The University also recently published a list of tips to help colleagues save energy at home as the cost of living rises.
