Dr Tim Lees new Head of School of Built Environment
24 August 2022
Dr Tim Lees has been appointed as the new Head of the School of Built Environment.
The appointment follows a recruitment process that was initiated earlier this year and is for a fixed six-year term, starting on 1 September 2022.
Tim replaces Professor Chris Harty, who is to join London South Bank University as its Dean of the School of the Built Environment and Architecture, having led the School of the Built Environment at the University of Reading since August 2017.
As Head of School, Tim will be responsible for providing the School’s academic leadership, contribute to the broader leadership within the wider University, and be responsible for chairing the University Board for Architecture.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) Professor Mark Fellowes said, “I am very pleased that Tim is taking on the role of Head of the School of Built Environment; his considerable experience in senior leadership positions in the School provides a strong foundation for his new role. Tim has a clear, ambitious vision for SBE, and I look forward to working with him and his colleagues to build on the excellent progress seen in the School in recent years.”
Tim said, “I am thrilled at the opportunity to lead the School of the Built Environment. The School has fantastic staff who deliver excellent research and teaching across an increasingly diverse portfolio of built environment activity. I look forward to working with the committed staff across the School to build upon the solid foundations put in place by Chris.”
Originally from Oldham, Tim's Built Environment journey started as a Research Fellow working in the Centre for Education in the Built Environment, Salford, and then the Innovative Construction Research Centre, Reading. His leadership roles at Reading have included Head of Construction Management and Engineering and School Director of Teaching and Learning. As a Lecturer and Employability Lead, he established the School's approach to placement and employability, working with students and companies to create routes to employment. Tim has a passion for working with students to co-create fun, engaging and useful experiences in a research-intensive environment. He has a breadth of experience of the student journey that includes transitions into higher education, success in study, success in employability and well-being.
