Shortlist success in Green Gown Awards for sustainability
22 August 2022
We start the week with the fantastic news that the University has been shortlisted as a finalist in three categories at this year's Green Gown Awards UK & Ireland - the most we have achieved in a single year since 2015.
The Awards, administered by the Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges (EAUC), recognise the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the UK and Ireland each year. Reading’s last success at the Green Gowns came in 2017, when we received the Carbon Reduction award for delivering a reduction of 35% in our emissions across the University (from a 2008/09 baseline).
This year, the University has been shortlisted in three categories for the following projects:
- Sustainability Institution of the Year Award: ‘The art of SMART sustainability leadership
- Campus Health, Food and Drink: ‘Giving Food More Thought™’
- Next Generation Learning and Skills: ‘Climate in the Classroom: Leading transformation of climate education in UK schools and colleges’
Dan Fernbank, Energy and Sustainability Director, said: "The Green Gown Awards showcase the best sustainability projects right across the further and higher education sectors. To be shortlisted in all three categories we entered is a real compliment. It reflects the significant work that has gone into bringing together our teaching, research and operational strengths in sustainability and we are looking forward to the winners being announced in November."
