University Challenge: Reading runner-up in historic run
06 April 2022
Our Reading team were narrowly defeated in the University Challenge final against Imperial last night.
After making history with their success in the quarter-finals, the team went on even further making it to the final show, in a rematch against Imperial College London, who they lost to in the second of three quarter-finals.
Despite the loss, the University and our Reading community are so proud of their achievements, with streams of positive comment across the media and social media.
The team said: “The game could not have been closer. Literally 5 points on the gong. Who knows what a few more minutes would have done? Huge congratulations to Imperial, who were tough opponents, but very sporting with it. We have thoroughly enjoyed the ride.”
Professor Parveen Yaqoob, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Reading, said: “We are immensely proud of our team for their stunning run on University Challenge.
“They have made history by reaching the final, but best of all they have done so by demonstrating Reading values of partnership, mutual respect and support, and passion for their subjects.”
The next team selection event will take place in the autumn term.
