Leadership opportunity at NUIST-Reading Academy
25 April 2022
The University is seeking to appoint to the new position of Academic Director of Teaching and Learning (ADTL) for NUIST-Reading Academy. This is a good opportunity for anyone with ambitions in the leadership of teaching and learning, and an interest in the student experience.
The job has been advertised internally and is open to academic staff in the University. The appointment is a secondment to the International Study and Language Institute for four years, starting on 1 August 2022. The appointee will work 0.5 FTE within ISLI and for the remainder of their time in their home academic School. The precise distribution of time in role will depend on the nature of other commitments in each teaching term or semester.
NUIST-Reading Academy is the University of Reading’s joint institute in China, in partnership with Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, which offers eight undergraduate and two postgraduate taught programmes.
The ADTL will be responsible for academic quality and standards, as well as having oversight of teaching operations, in respect of Nanjing-based students. A key focus of the role is to guarantee a comparable student experience, and equal academic standards, to what we offer on other campuses.
The role is based in Reading UK, but the appointee should expect to make three or four visits to Nanjing each year. This 0.5 FTE job attracts a responsibility allowance of £2,000 a year, pro rata. The responsibility allowance is subject to tax and National Insurance, but not superannuable.
Further details, including how to apply, can be found here. Colleagues who want to discuss the role informally are welcome to contact David Carter (Head of ISLI) or Daguo Li (Vice Dean, NUIST-Reading Academy).
The closing date for applications is Friday 29 April. Interviews will be held on Thursday 12 May.
