Celebrating Teaching & Learning success event 2021
28 September 2021
An event to celebrate Teaching & Learning (T&L) achievements at the University, organised by the Centre for Quality, Support and Development (CQSD), took place in the Meadow Suite on Wednesday 23 September. After last year’s celebration was postponed, the event provided an exciting opportunity for colleagues to come together and celebrate achievements in T&L during 2019/20 and 2020/21. It was clear that colleagues enjoyed meeting together and discussing a wide range of educational successes after an extended period off-campus.
Speeches (from Vice-Chancellor, Professor Robert Van de Noort, and Pro-Vice-Chancellors for Education & Student Experience, Professors Julian Park and Elizabeth McCrum) praised the enormous support and professionalism from all T&L colleagues, both academic and professional, and recognised that despite the difficult challenges of the last 18 months, there has continued to be a wealth of wonderful and innovative work in our T&L community. Julian and Elizabeth thanked CQSD in particular for their support of teaching colleagues throughout the pandemic and for the organisation of an important on-campus event.
Several of the award winners spoke in relation to their particular awards. Simon Floodgate, one of our University Teaching Fellowship Scheme (UTFS) winners, illustrated his dynamic approach and encouraged attendees to consider their ‘pedamantra’ (combination of pedagogy and mantra) - created by condensing the responses to two sentence starters into a three to four word phrase - and contribute to an interactive ‘mentimeter’ for all to reflect on. You can read some of the inspiring responses in this document.
