National Adoption Week 2021: 18-23 October
20 October 2021
Are you an adoptive or foster parent? Are you thinking about adopting or fostering a child? Do you have some other family structure, e.g. kinship care, private caring arrangements, etc.? Within the University of Reading’s Parents and Family Network is an Microsoft Teams channel where guardians, kinship carers, foster parents and adopters can get together and chat.
In the UK, there are almost 3,000 children in need of a family but the number of adoptions in England has fallen by a third in four years. To celebrate National Adoption Week we’ll be getting together in person in the MERL café (Redlands Road RG1 5EX) 13:00-14:00 on Friday 22 October 2021 it would be great to welcome some more people to the group.
If you are not yet an adopter but are thinking about adoption please come along. We know the road to adoption is tough and can be isolating. People in our group are happy to give advice and support and you can follow this year’s myth-busting hashtag #YouCanAdopt on social media. You also listen to the award winning BBC podcast The Adoption, get guidance from First4Adoption or check out local charity Parents and Children Together (PACT).
