Could your research benefit from undergraduate collaboration?

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme (UROP) offers undergraduate students the chance to gain hands-on research experience on projects covering all disciplines across the University.

Applications are now being accepted for collaborative research projects between academic departments and undergraduate students. 

The programme provides undergraduates with an opportunity to gain research experience through a paid six-week project during the summer vacation. For researchers, it is equally rewarding – collaborating with undergraduates can produce a fresh perspective on research and can help develop students into promising candidates for postgraduate research.

The deadline for applications is 17:00, 17 December 2021.

An information webinar will take place on 3 November 2021 (13:00–14:00) to provide an informal opportunity to find out more about the scheme and you can apple.

UROP Showcase event, 17 November 2021

A showcase of UROP projects completed over the summer will be held on 17 November 2021. This year the showcase will be an online event but we would like it to reach as wide as audience as possible.

The students have been asked to submit a written submission about their project and also a screencast giving more detail on their research, and these will be presented via the form of a digital event booklet/programme which will be made available on the day.

Now in its seventeenth year, UROP has supported over 800 undergraduate research projects.

As a researcher, you can apply to be a Principal Investigator on UROP projects – to qualify, you must be a permanent member of staff, or on a fixed-term contract running past November 2022. Post-Doctoral Research Assistants can apply to be Principal Investigators if their supervisor is listed as a Co-Investigator, and PhD students may co-supervise projects only.
