Trans Day of Remembrance

Trans Day of Remembrance is on Saturday 20 November this year. Each year this day is a solemn reminder to honour those who have lost their lives in acts of anti-trans violence.  

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that trans people are significantly more likely to be a victim of crime (one in four trans people (28%) experienced crime in the year ending March 2020) compared with 14% of people whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were registered at birth.

Trans Inclusion training at the University of Reading  

This session looks at the range and variety of people who identify in one way or another as Transgender. The variables of gender, sexuality and other aspects are explored and explained, including: What it is like to be Trans; Coming Out; Being Trans in Public; Being Trans at work; How do staff react to trans people? With time for discussion, questions and answers.

Community collaboration – call for contributions 

Reading Pride and MyUmbrella are planning a hybrid (digital and in-person) Remembrance Vigil  to mark this day, and they would love to include a statement from anyone from the University who would be willing to record and contribute a short video (max. 5 mins).
