Mental Health Awareness week is all about raising awareness and promoting better mental health.
It is commonly said that there is no health without mental health and maintaining our physical and mental health is central to our wellbeing.
1 in 4 people experience mental health issues each year.
1 in 6 workers will experience depression, anxiety or problems relating to stress at any one time.
It has been estimated that 91 million working days have been lost as result of employees experiencing issues with mental wellbeing.
MIND the Mental health charity have advised that over the course of the Corona virus pandemic anxiety and loneliness have increased and that rates of depression have doubled.
Talking is one of the best ways we can look after our mental wellbeing but reaching out and starting a conversation about our mental wellbeing isn’t always an easy step.
Help and support
It is important to be able to talk about our mental health in a supportive environment and our University has invested in training on mental health skills for over 80-line managers in this year alone.
We also have the Wellbeing Peer Support Network who have been trained to be the first point of contact if you are experiencing a mental health issue, poor wellbeing or emotional distress.
They are trained to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues and they can guide you towards the right support service for you.
CIC has organised a Mental Health Awareness Webinar with Harry Key on Thursday May 13 2021 at 15:00. To join, use this link and register using your name, email address and the password is 'wellbeing'.
Colleagues can also access the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), which is an independent, free, confidential support and counselling service, run by CIC and is called Confidential Care.
Confidential Care gives you a place to turn for support any time of day or night, 365 days a year. Support is available for whatever issues you might be facing, including work stress, depression, marriage and relationship issues, legal concerns, coping with change, parenting issues, financial problems, health issues and much more.
Connect with nature
The theme of Mental Health Awareness Week is Nature and inspiring people to connect with nature as a way of balancing their mental health.
