Community at Reading: how you can get involved
02 March 2021
The voices of staff, students and the local community are important and must be listened to as we develop a vision to become more of a civic University. Here are two new opportunities that provide you with a chance to get involved, shape how we engage with the wider community and have your voice heard:
Cuppa over... Community
Cuppa over... Community is a new pilot scheme aimed at providing the local community with a chance to have their voices heard in a meaningful, personal and informal way. Anyone in the local community can sign up for 15-minute slots with a staff or student volunteer, who will ask each local guest some questions to help gather views on the University's engagement with the local community.
You can find out more information about the scheme on our Cuppa over... Community page.
We are looking for staff volunteers! If you are interested, please email community@reading.ac.uk.
Are you a local resident? You can sign up to share your views with a volunteer by emailing community@reading.ac.uk.
Also, if you're a member of staff and know someone in the local community who might be interested in taking part, feel free to tell them about the scheme.
Community Action Partnership (CAP)
The Community Action Partnership (CAP) is for change makers, community activists and forward-thinkers who want to improve the lives of our wider community. The CAP exists to improve, enhance and coordinate the University's efforts to engage with the Berkshire community.
The group is a proactive forum for staff and students to share their work around community engagement and learn more about how their role within the University could contribute to new and existing pieces of work.
CAP is for any staff member or student at the University who is passionate about improving community engagement, has feedback or ideas that can contribute to the vision of Engaged University or wants to learn more about how we can create better relationships with the wider community.
The CAP is fully flexible, with those interested in joining getting the opportunity to choose their level of commitment. Whether you show up regularly or just once, your input is valuable and helps to shape an accurate, thorough and meaningful vision of wider community engagement.
Want to know more or get involved?
Email community@reading.ac.uk to find out more information, be added to the CAP Teams channel or be invited to upcoming meetings.
