Calling for volunteers for Clearing
23 June 2021
Our Global Recruitment and Admissions (GRA) team is inviting volunteers to help staff the Clearing call centre.
If you are able to give time between Tuesday 10 August and Friday 13 August, the GRA team would like to hear from you. You do not need to be available on all of those days or for a full day, and no prior experience of Admissions is required. If you have not volunteered for Clearing before, training will be provided.
Clearing is a large and complex operation which plays and important part in the University meeting its undergraduate student recruitment targets. Each year we have a large call centre staffed by people from all around the University. We have taken the decision this year to deliver Clearing from an on-campus location in the Library as we did in 2020. We will be spread across several floors again to allow us to all observe social distancing and we will implement all the required adjustments to keep everybody safe. We didn’t have a single COVID case associated with Clearing last year. We will also provide support to agents with questions on the day in a manner that reduces personal contact either online or in person from a distance as we did last year.
We will still need the most agents on the morning of results day, which this year will be Tuesday 10 August, but agents will be needed at all times that we are open from the 10 August and right through to Friday 13 August. We don’t yet know how this year’s change in day-of-the-week for a level results day will effect call demand but we want to have a call centre staffed for that week and we do anticipate Clearing will be busy this year. We welcome volunteers for any of those days and there are options to sign up for half days or full days as you prefer.
If you would like to volunteer to work Clearing please complete the agent sign up form. If you have any questions please contact Kathryn Whittington, Head of Admissions at k.l.whittington@reading.ac.uk
