Secret Garden re-opens on Whiteknights campus
09 June 2021
With restrictions being lifted, the Secret Garden on Whiteknights Campus has re-opened and will be available for regular volunteer visits on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons. This coming Sunday 13 June, Student Eats Secret Garden is open its doors and hosting a drop in between 12pm and 4pm where colleagues and students can learn more about the project. To attend the open afternoon which is completely free, you need to book a ticket here.
Working in the garden during the summer (and winter) provides opportunities for students and colleagues to meet new people, make friends and learn about food production, a practical example of the University’s strategic principles of community and sustainability on our doorstep!. It is now possible to go to the garden and get your hands dirty. Once the hard work is over, relax in the garden and even take some fresh vegetables home to eat.
Students Eat Secret Garden is a RUSU-led activity for students and colleagues and the committee are looking forward to welcoming new volunteers. Students can get training and skills, including hours for the RED award and if they really enjoy it, they can join the committee can be a great addition to the CV.
Colleagues are also an important part of the Students Eats Garden. They can provide consistent support and effort year-round. It is important to note that the garden is not open to members of the community particularly those under 18 years of age.
The project is free for all participants, staff and students alike. Come and visit the Secret Garden on Sunday and see all the opportunities for yourself!
