Access to Senate and Council papers
14 June 2021
Colleagues interested in keeping across discussions at the University Council and Senate can now request papers of their meetings. This decision follows an agreement with UCU and Staff Forum as part of the Phase-1 discussions.
Senate has a large membership of academic staff, RUSU sabbatical officers and students, and has general responsibility for the academic standards of the University. Council has a predominantly external membership, and is the highest level decision making committee in the University with responsibility for good governance and stewardship.
Members of Senate and Council receive papers a week before any scheduled meetings, though there can be a delay sometimes. The complete set of papers often run into several hundred pages.
Our intention is to make available on request all papers, except for those deemed commercially or personally sensitive. You are not permitted to share the papers outside the University or make reference to their content. The next meeting of Senate is on 24 June, and if you would like to see the papers once circulated to members, please contact Louise Sharman (l.v.sharman@reading.ac.uk). The next meeting of Council is on 5 July, and if you would like to see the papers once circulated to members, please contact Eleanor Saxon (e.a.saxon@reading.ac.uk).
