16 July 2021
The Joint Academic Board (JAB) presented a thank you plaque to Professor Adrian Williams in recognition of his work at their meeting on Wednesday 14 July. The plaque was presented by Janet Lippett, Chief Medical Officer Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, with Steve McManus, CEO Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust and Deputy Vice Chancellor Parveen Yaqoob joining the meeting by MS Teams.
Professor Williams said:
“I was very surprised and touched to receive this plaque for my work with the JAB. We are immensely proud of this growing partnership and delighted that the opportunity to work with the Hospital Trust by bringing our research expertise to improve clinical practice. The collaborative research and education, funding innovation and clinical and academic excellence delivers real value to both organisations.”
Research by our academics and clinicians is supported by a Joint Academic Board established by the University and the Hospital in 2017. Comprising senior leaders from both organisations, the Board aims to develop innovative partnerships in teaching, research or commercialisation that will improve patient treatments and outcomes. This is part of an extensive, multidisciplinary partnership which supports collaborative projects between hospital clinicians and University researchers across health, social sciences and the arts.
The JAB oversees funding provided by both organisations to stimulate novel collaborations. For example, the Collaborative Innovation Fund supports early-phase joint research or education projects to test and pilot new approaches to clinical care. It has a shared annual budget of £500k and has supported 29 collaborative projects between 28 hospital clinicians and 33 University researchers across all four Research Themes.
