Interested in becoming an LGBT+ Staff Network Rep?
05 July 2021
The LGBT+ Staff Network is looking for expressions of interest for three representative positions within the Network. Please send through your expressions of interest to diversity@reading.ac.uk by end of Wednesday 14 July 2021.
As with all representative roles, these positions will be shaped by the role holder, working with the Network membership, other Representatives, and the Co-Chairs. We are keen to see expressions of interest with new ideas that can take the network to the next level.

- Sharing new stories and latest best practice

- Improving the visible presence of allies to the UoR LGBT+ community and being a point of call for all staff to speak to about allyship.
- Organisation of activities/events about allyship.
- Sharing good practice with UoR staff as well as with other institutions where the opportunity arises.
The outgoing Lead Ally, Gemma Fitz, writes:
I have really enjoyed the last two years as Lead Ally of the LGBT+ Network. I have had the opportunity to work on several activities and initiatives, such as the creation of our LGBT+ Network MS Team, setting up our LGBT+ monthly book club and sharing good practice with other institutions e.g. The Open University and Imperial College London.
I have also helped to organise several great events such as our bi-annual Ally Recruitment & Information sessions, Ally Training with the Women@Reading and the Disability & Neurodiversity Networks and the more recent LGBT+ Perspectives on Parenting in collaboration with the Parent & Family Network.
I am so proud of how much our network of allies has grown in that time to support our LGBT+ community and the engagement from staff and students who want to learn how to become proactive and effective allies has been truly inspiring.
Expressions of Interest
Expressions of interest should include:
- Why do you want to serve in this role?
- What would you bring to the role?
- What would you like to achieve?
- When could you start?
