Public lectures with bestselling writers

Our spring term public lectures are in full swing, and we are delighted to be joined by bestselling writers Tom Holland and Scarlett Curtis over the coming weeks.  

The Making of Dominion: An Interview with Tom Holland

The Annual Chaplaincy Lecture proudly presents an interview with award-winning historian, author and broadcaster Tom Holland. During this online event, Tom will be discussing his most recent work, Dominion: The Making of the Western Mind.

'If great books encourage you to look at the world in an entirely new way, then Dominion is a very great book indeed', Sunday Times History Book of the Year.

Holland has adapted Homer, Herodotus, Thucydides and Virgil for the BBC and his translation of Herodotus was published in 2013 by Penguin Classics. He is presenter of BBC Radio 4's Making History and has written and presented a number of TV documentaries, for the BBC and Channel 4, on subjects ranging from ISIS to dinosaurs.

Edith Morley lecture: Scarlett Curtis

Please join us for our annual Edith Morley lecture in honour of Professor Edith Morley, who was believed to be the UK's first female professor.  

We are delighted to present writer, activist, podcaster and journalist Scarlett Curtis. Scarlett is the curator of the Sunday Times Bestseller and National Book Award winning "Feminists Don't Wear Pink & other lies" and curator of Sunday Times Bestselling book "It's Not Okay to Feel Blue & other lies". She has also written for The Guardian, The Telegraph, The Sunday Times Style and Vogue.

In 2017 Scarlett co-founded The Pink Protest; a feminist activist collective committed to helping young people take action online and IRL. To date they have been a part of campaigns that have changed two laws; a bill to help end period poverty and a bill to get FGM into the Children's Act.

Scarlett Curtis was awarded the Changemaker Award for young activists presented by Equality Now, Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE in November 2019.
