15 December 2021
Peter Miskell has been appointed the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), in a job-share with Elizabeth McCrum.
He is a Professor of International Business and Media History at the Henley Business School, where he also heads the Undergraduate Programmes.
Peter will start his new role on 1 February 2022, which is for a period of six years.
He will replace Julian Park, who is stepping down from the role at the end of this month, and who will return, part-time, to his position in the School of Agriculture, Policy and Development.
Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort said, “I am delighted with the appointment of Peter Miskell as Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience). His experience of teaching, research and academic leadership roles provides him with a good perspective on how we can continue to provide our students an excellent education. Peter has also co-led the work on the reshaping of the academic year, as part of the Strategic Foundations Programme, which is crucial to how we will deliver excellence in education in the coming years.”
Peter Miskell said, “I feel genuinely honoured and privileged to have this opportunity to serve the University as PVC Education and Student Experience. We have so much to be proud of about the quality of the educational opportunities we provide, yet also more to do to ensure that all of our students are able to fully benefit from the transformative power of a higher education experience. I very much look forward to working with colleagues across the University, and with the team at RUSU, to achieve real progress on this front in the coming years.’
Pro-Vice-Chancellor role
Peter Miskell will job-share the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Student Experience), with Elizabeth McCrum, and ensure that our University provides an excellent education to all of our students and makes significant progress towards its aspiration to be in the top quartile in the UK sector for teaching excellence, while ensuring that we remain genuinely people-oriented.
He will also be an integral part of the University Executive Board, which is collectively responsible for the day-to-day management and leadership of the University.

Since joining Reading, Peter has taught and researched various aspects of international business, with a particular focus on the evolution of multinational firms in the creative sectors. He served for the last five years as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Management and Organizational History, and in 2019 was elected to the Council of the European Business History Association. He has combined research and teaching with a range of academic leadership roles.
From 2008-2012 he acted as Director of Teaching and Learning for Henley Business School, with responsibility for quality assurance and enhancement for all qualification programmes.
