Staff Forum drop-in sessions: USS consultation
03 December 2021
The Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) Trustee has accepted proposed changes to the scheme following the 2020 valuation. The USS is the pension scheme available to colleagues on Grade 6 and above.
As part of this process there is a statutory consultation period with USS members and representative groups including the Staff Forum and the University and Colleges Union.
To help colleagues engage meaningfully with the consultation process, the Staff Forum will be hosting drop-in sessions on:
- Tuesday 7 December, 11:00-13:00
- Wednesday 8 December, 12:00-14:00
The University and Colleges Union (UCU) is the formally recognised union representing academic, professional, and managerial staff on Framework Grades 6+. We would encourage staff who are members of the union to engage with your UCU representatives to have your comments included for consideration during the consultation.
The Staff Forum exists to give all colleagues another voice and, we want to bring your thoughts, ideas, and initiatives on the proposed USS changes to the attention of the University. We would like to hear from you – whatever your grade or role.
The final date for comments to be included in the consultation will be Monday 17 January 2022. If you would like to speak to the Staff Forum to share your position but are unable to join us at either of the times above, contact us directly via staff-forum@reading.ac.uk.
All comments will be treated in confidence and shared anonymously (unless otherwise directed by you) as the Staff Forum will raise comments and suggestions from these discussions collectively.
About the consultation
This consultation seeks comments from affected employees and their representatives on:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->• the Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC)’s recommended package of benefit changes,
<!--[if !supportLists]-->• the alternative contribution rates which take effect from 1 April 2022 if the changes recommended by the JNC are not implemented
You can read more about the proposed changes and respond to the proposals on the USS consultation website - www.ussconsultation2021.co.uk
We highly recommend that you provide your comments and concerns you might have through the website now, so that your response to the proposals can be considered during the consultation before any final decision is made and implemented.
Effective representation requires engagement. We want to hear your views and concerns.
Your views are important to US, join in and get heard!
