All colleagues are warmly invited to attend this informal session for an update on the Portfolio Review Pathway. Join Professor Elizabeth McCrum (Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education & Student Experience) and the project leads for a short summary of the status of the four projects (Programme & Module Review, Programme Expectations, Blended Learning, and Restructuring the Academic Year) followed by plenty of time for discussion and questions.
The Portfolio Review Pathway comprises four inter-related projects within the Strategic Foundation Programme. The Pathway oversees a programme of portfolio review; supporting Schools to reduce programmes and modules, establish simplified programme expectations, reduce assessment load, adopt an augmented blended learning approach and consider the timing of teaching and assessment across the academic year.
All four projects have been proactively engaging with key stakeholders over the last 7 months, including the student panel and colleagues across Schools and Functions, to inform their proposals and implementation planning activities. Building on the feedback received at the consultation sessions with colleagues in June, July, September and October, the Programme Expectations and Blended Learning project teams have submitted final proposals for approval and are now developing implementation guidance and support tools for Schools.
More information about the Portfolio Review Pathway projects:
- The Academic Year project (led by Charlotte Coleman and Peter Miskell) is now focused on developing an implementation plan for the new 2 semester academic year structure, working closely with colleagues across Schools and Functions.
- The Programme Expectations project (led by Joy Collier and Orla Kennedy) aims to support the design, delivery and enhancement of new and existing programmes and modules.
- The Blended Learning project (led by Dan Grant and Vicki Holmes) introduces an augmented blended approach beyond the emergency switch to online adopted over the last 18 months. Both projects are submitting proposals for approval by UBTLSE, Senate and then Council in November and January.
- The Programme and Module Review project (led by Louise Hague and Keith Swanson), is focused on ensuring our portfolio is distinctive, coherent, reflective of student demand and sustainable. Schools have undertaken a review of their UG and PGT programmes and have made their final recommendations on what to retain, reconfigure, or withdraw. Guidance for the module review is now being developed and will be aligned with the implementation guidance from the other projects in the pathway to allow schools to take a holistic approach when reconfiguring their portfolio.
