Trish Reid new Head of SACD

Professor Trish Reid is joining the University as the new Head of the School of Arts and Communication Design.
The appointment follows a recruitment process that was initiated earlier this year and is for a fixed period of six years.
Trish replaces Professor John Gibbs, who was appointed the Research Dean for Heritage and Creativity, earlier this year.
Trish joins us from Kingston University where she held a wide variety of posts since 2002, gaining extensive experience of managing teams of academics and professional service staff. Most recently she was Professor of Contemporary Theatre and Performance, but has previously held roles including:

Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning and Teaching)

Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching)

Head of Department

Deputy Head of School
Additionally, she is a Principal Fellow of Advanced HE and a certified Change Management practitioner.
Announcing the appointment, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic Planning & Resources) Mark Fellowes said, “I am delighted to welcome Trish to the University. She brings a wealth of experience from her time at Kingston and strongly in building an inclusive pedagogy, providing stimulating and inclusive educational experiences that build confidence.”
Trish said, “I am delighted at the opportunity to lead the School of Arts and Communication Design. It is home to so much excellent research, teaching and impact, and look forward to working with the committed and talented team here. John Gibbs has left very strong foundations and I look forward to building on these.”
Originally from Glasgow, Trish entered higher education as a mature student, having worked as an actor and musician, gaining her undergraduate degree and PhD at Goldsmith’s, University of London. She is passionate about supporting students who enter higher education through non-traditional routes and to ensuring access to creative arts education for all students, regardless of background.
She is published widely around contemporary British theatre and performance including Theatre & Scotland (Palgrave 2013) and The Theatre of Anthony Neilson (Bloomsbury 2017), and is joint general editor of Elements in Theatre, Performance and the Political.
