Community Action Partnership
27 August 2021
The Community Action Partnership (CAP) is a collaborative forum bringing together staff and students interested in community action. The aim of the forum is to coordinate the University of Reading and RUSU’s engagement with the external community, to inspire and share best practice.
Since the CAP forum was created in 2020, we have carried out the following activities:
- Recruited and trained a team of Student Community Champions to support our work, explicitly encouraging students from under-represented groups to represent the diversity found in Berkshire and actively widen participation.
- Carried out a listening exercise to identify how we can share our knowledge and resources to support external communities affected by the pandemic. Since March, we have met with over 40 community organisations including grassroots groups, charities and local agencies, such as Alliance for the Cohesion of Racial Equality (ACRE), charities such as Get Berkshire Active and local agencies including Reading Borough Council.
- Created a CAP Teams channel with over 50 members, and set up workstreams to focus on specific topics including diversity and inclusion, wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
The Community Action Partnership is open to any staff member or student interested in working with local communities. Membership is flexible so you can choose your level of commitment. Please contact community@reading.ac.uk to join, or to find out more information.
