Event Information
The Walker Institute invites all colleagues to join the My Climate Risk Interdisciplinary Learning Group.
The group meets on Zoom on the second Monday of every month, from 13:00-14:00, to share science and perspectives on climate change.
September’s speaker is Professor Iain Stewart, the El Hassan bin Talal Research Chair in Sustainability at the Royal Scientific Society (Jordan) and Professor of Geoscience Communication at the University of Plymouth (UK).
Iain’s research interests are in disaster risk reduction, climate change, and Earth science communication. His Earth science communication work has involved a 15-year partnership with BBC Science making popular television documentaries about planet Earth. Read Professor Stewart’s biography.
Iain will discuss the climate emergencies facing universities and will provide insights about how change to overcome challenges might be stewarded. He will outline the emergencies universities need to overcome on the inside if they are to help society address the scale of the challenges on the outside, through the paper Frontiers | Renewing Universities in Our Climate Emergency: Stewarding System Change and Transformation (frontiersin.org).
The link to the Zoom session is on the Walker Institute September MCRILG session webpage.
