Event Information
Would you shift your daily energy use to match the times when renewable energy is most available?
Join a discussion on how our daily lives can be more sustainable at the latest research seminar in the Global Environmental Challenges series, organised jointly by the University of Reading and the Natural History Museum (NHM).
Making our daily lives more sustainable is something many of us aspire to, and flexibility has become a central concept in these discussions, and of future energy systems. Many of the proposed solutions hinge on the idea that demand can 'flex' to meet supply, particularly when energy is being generated from intermittent sources like wind and solar. But can these really work?
Jacopo Torriti, Professor of Energy Economics and Policy at the University of Reading, explores research on the extent to which pricing mechanisms, emerging technologies, and the relationship between people's daily routines and their energy use can help us to understand how important balancing renewable supply with fluctuating demand will be for the future of greener energy.
Booking is required. To book your place, and for more information, please contact Beth Steiner, Research Facilitation Manager at the University of Reading.
About the seminar series
The seminar series is intended to highlight and support collaborative, interdisciplinary research on global environmental challenges.
Throughout 2024, six cross-institutional seminars on topics of sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental challenges will be presented by researchers from both institutions who have successfully received funding for large, interdisciplinary projects.
All the seminars are hybrid and recordings will be available.
