Event Information
Join the latest research seminar in a series intended to highlight and support collaborative, interdisciplinary research on global environmental challenges, jointly organised by the Natural History Museum (NHM) and the University of Reading.
July's seminar is titled FoodSEqual: Co-production of a healthy, sustainable food system for disadvantaged communities. It will be presented by Professor Carol Wagstaff, Research Dean for Agriculture, Food and Health.
A baseline of 22% of people live in food poverty in the UK, often reliant on solutions outside of mainstream food systems, including food banks. This doesn’t enable people to plan or choose their diet, or to improve their food security on a long-term basis.
The FoodSEqual Project focuses on sharing knowledge and learning from working with people from a variety of disadvantaged communities to give a voice and power to those who are so often left behind when food systems, food policies and novel products are designed.
This seminar will share key findings and implications from this research for improving the structure and policies underpinning our food system.
There is a 130 person limit in person and booking is required.
Point of contact for the event is Beth Steiner.
About the seminar series
The seminar series is intended to highlight and support collaborative, interdisciplinary research on global environmental challenges.
Throughout 2024, six cross-institutional seminars on topics of sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental challenges will be presented by researchers from both institutions who have successfully received funding for large, interdisciplinary projects.
All the seminars are hybrid and recordings will be available.
