Accessing the National Health Service (NHS)

All non-UK European Economic Area (EEA) nationals and their family should obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) before coming to the UK.

This card entitles the holder and their family to full NHS treatment. The EHIC obtained from your country of residence is acceptable evidence of comprehensive sickness insurance, if your stay in the UK is to be temporary.

Healthcare information for EEA visitors and students

This leaflet provides information for all residents of EEA countries and Switzerland (including British citizens living in one of these countries) who may wish to use the National Health Service (NHS) while in England.
