Early Birds
Our Early bird promotion typically begins in April of your first year, allowing you to register your interest in the scheme ahead of starting your second year. Being a Thrive Early bird has its advantages:
- Exclusive opportunities to view the available mentors and choose which professional you would like to be matched with ahead of other students who are not Early birds
- The potential to meet the Mentoring Team and ask all the questions you might have, as well as the possibility of Early bird-only events and insights into mentors being recruited onto the programme.
- Early access to the compulsory Mentee Preparation Sessions – attend one over the summer and be ready to be matched with your mentor as soon as you start your second year
Please note – As a Thrive Early bird you are registering your interest to enable you to make a head start with the scheme. We will then be in touch early in Semester 1 to ask you to fully register and pick your mentor preferences, but you will be given a reminder about this and plenty of notice.

The Thrive Timeline
Register your interest as an Early bird – First year students can sign up as an Early bird in the last few months of their first year, ahead of their second year. This can be done through the link on the ‘Thrive Early bird’ tile on the website.
Mentee preparation sessions over the summer – As an Early bird, you will be invited first to book into a mentee preparation session. You must attend a session before you can choose your mentor. After attending a session, you will be sent the official sign-up link when it becomes available, so you can create your account on our Thrive system, and then view our mentors for your selection.
Introduction to your Mentor – Semester is student dependent - Once you have attended a preparation session and signed up to our platform, you will be able to choose your mentor and your mentor will then respond to your matching request. At this point, it is a good idea to reach out to them via the message function on our platform, to introduce yourself and set up your first meeting.
- Mentoring is flexible around your studies, each partnership generally runs from 3-9 months. Each month you will spend a minimum of 1-2 hours communicating with your mentor.
Scheme closes in June - the Thrive Scheme closes toward the end of the June and it is important to let the Mentoring Team know when your partnership ends. Sometimes mentoring will continue past the end of Thrive but this is up to the preference of mentor and mentee.
