Moving out FAQs

Answers to some of the most frequently asked questions around moving out of halls.

Below is a list of frequently asked questions around moving out of hall. If you have any further questions, please email accommodationonline@reading.ac.uk.

Can I leave my bike here over summer?

If you are not returning to hall, we cannot store your bike during the Summer.

If you have a bike you no longer want, please let your local reception know. UPP donates bikes to the Bike Project.

If you are returning to hall next Academic Year and would like to leave your bike here for the Summer, please contact your local reception who will provide you with more information.

Bikes left behind without arrangement will be removed in line with the Abandoned Bicycle Policy.

I need to stay in halls for longer, can I extend my booking?

Yes, please visit Stay@Reading, and see the Student Extenders section for more information.

Please note, it is unlikely you will be able to stay in your current room and 2024-25 Accommodation charges will apply from your original contract end date.

I’m not sure about the end date of my contract, where can I find this?

Your contract end date is available to view on the Accommodation portal.

I’m returning to hall next Academic Year; can you store my items over the summer?

No items can be stored whilst residents are not living in halls. There are a number of local storage companies that offer this service.

My Campus Card provided access to my hall and room; do I need to return the key envelope?

Yes! If your Campus Card was your access card and you have lost any keys or your laundry card, you still need to return your envelope and it must be signed to signify that you have left your accommodation.

If you have any further questions or queries, please contact your local reception who will be happy to help.

What time do I need to leave by?

You need to leave your accommodation by 09:00 on the last day of your contract.
