Get ready for Welcome Week and Enrolment
18 September 2024
As we get ready to welcome new and returning students for the new semester, here’s how you can help students find out what’s happening across the University before, during and after Welcome Week (23 – 27 September).
Colleagues across the University have worked hard to schedule an array of exciting activities, informative sessions and put clear processes in place to ensure a smooth transition into University for our new students.
Help our students settle in
We have lots of resources available that you can signpost new students to and help them navigate their first few weeks as a University of Reading student:
- Encourage students to get organised and download the UoR Student app once they've enrolled - on the app they can access their new timetable, view all Welcome activities, and receive the latest news and important updates.
- The Welcome website - contains all the essential information for new and returning students, including everything students need to know about enrolment
- Unsure how to answer a student's question? Our Frequently Asked Questions page covers key information for students on topics they might have missed.
- Our international student pages on the Welcome website are here to help our new and returning international students. We also have an international student checklist to help International Students keep track of what they need to do before they begin their studies.
Enrolment
Enrolment takes place in the Palmer building on the following dates and times:
- Thursday 19 September - Tuesday 24 September (09:30-16:30, inclusive of the weekend)
- Wednesday 25 September - Friday 27 September (10:00-16:00)
- Campus card collection only: Monday 30 September - Friday 11 October (10:00-16:00, NOT inclusive of the weekend)
This year we will be providing late arrivals the opportunity to catch up with Welcome information by attending one of our ‘mini-Welcomes’. These will take place every Wednesday for six weeks starting on Wednesday 2 October 12:00-13:00 in Carrington 201 and will include a Library tour.
Student Life events
Non-alcoholic student events for specific groups of students, such as mature, commuter, first generation and sanctuary scholars are scheduled and organised by the Transition and Retention Team during Semester 1. Students can see a full timetable of all non-alcoholic student events on their me@reading portal.
These sessions are designed to draw together like-minded students to enhance their sense of belonging and to support their transition to University.
If you want to learn more about these events, how to signpost students to them and anything further about Welcome or Enrolment, please email welcome@reading.ac.uk.
Get the Welcome App
All information regarding Welcome sessions, activities and events available to students can be found on our UoR Welcome App.
While it’s aimed at students, it's also a great way for staff to keep a live view of what’s happening in Welcome Week. You can download it by scanning the QR code or by searching ‘UoR Welcome’ in your device’s app store.
A desktop version is available and can be accessed via the Essentials website.
