Historical opportunity
Our centenary, 100 years since our Royal Charter was granted on 17 March 1926, will be marked by projects and activities throughout 2026 to celebrate our University community, showcase our impact on the world historically and into the future, boost our profile and reputation both here and overseas, and deliver a lasting legacy to benefit our community.
Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort CBE said: "Our centenary represents a rare and important opportunity to reflect on the University's rich history and to look ahead to our future, reinforcing our reputation for excellence and making a positive impact in the world through our research and teaching. It is so much more than just a chance to celebrate – it is an historical opportunity to raise the University’s profile in support of our growth goals and cement our reputation for excellence.”
Robert is leading a small steering group of colleagues, including our Chancellor Paul Lindley, planning our big celebrations. A budget of £1million from our University Endowment Fund has been earmarked for a range of projects and activities to mark our 100th year, with a particular focus on our strategic goals of raising our local, national and global profile, supporting our community and delivering a lasting legacy for our University.
Keep an eye out for news about some of these this week.
