Wing Lam to depart the University of Reading Malaysia
19 June 2024
Professor Wing Lam is to leave his role as Provost of the University of Reading Malaysia (UoRM) on 15 August 2024.
Wing took up the role of Provost and Chief Executive of our Reading campus in EduCity, Iskandar, in 2018. He has overseen the ongoing progress of UoRM, including a growth in student numbers and continued development of our programme offer to serve local demand.
Prior to joining UoRM, Wing held a number of senior academic leadership positions in the UK, Singapore and Malaysia, with expertise particularly in trans-national education and digital pedagogy.
Prior to joining academia, Wing had a successful consulting career with Accenture, International Computers Limited (now Fujitsu) and Logica.
Wing said: “The campus in Malaysia has grown from strength to strength over the years, and is now one of the premier universities in Malaysia for business, law, psychology, quantity surveying and real estate.
“I’m very privileged to have worked with such a committed team for the past six years, and am grateful for all the support. I look forward to the campus making an even greater impact in years to come.”
Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor, said: “There’s been a lot of change on our Malaysia campus in recent years, including the creation of a law programme and the launch of April intakes.
“I’m very grateful to Wing for his work in building our presence there, with his knowledge of the region and its education sector. In particular, I’d like to thank him for his leadership through a period of restructuring and realignment.”
Dr Caroline Baylon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), said: “Our Malaysia campus has seen some significant changes under Wing’s leadership. With overall student population continuing to grow, I’m excited to continue working with our wonderful colleagues in Malaysia to support our international ambitions.”
Recruitment for a new Provost will commence in the coming weeks.
