Student laptop scheme hits 1,000 loans
16 November 2023
A laptop loan service that’s bridging the digital divide for our students is celebrating an important milestone, with over 1,000 loans already this academic year – an average of 16 a day.
The LapSafe scheme was introduced over the summer and allows students to borrow a laptop for free from lockers in the Library, before returning it later that day.
The early stats reveal some interesting trends:
- Mondays and Thursdays are the busiest days.
- Each laptop is borrowed for around 4 hours on average before being returned.
- 23 October was the busiest day to date, with 56 loans.
- Some students have borrowed a laptop almost every day, suggesting that the service is meeting a demand for free access to technology.
DTS is keeping track of the way students are using the LapSafe scheme, using the data to inform their future planning and prioritisation.
