Supporting student wellbeing - new resources for all staff
09 May 2023
Guidance on helping students dealing with personal issues is now available for all colleagues on new Supporting Student Wellbeing webpages on the Staff Portal.
The new resource features dedicated pages for different wellbeing issues, including loneliness, stress, sexual abuse and financial hardship. These contain advice on handling the initial conversation, when these should be reported, immediate action that can be taken, and a list of relevant University and external support services to point the student towards.
The advice is intended to help any colleague that interacts with students during their work, such as in academic tutor meetings or conversations about other matters.
It includes advice on providing initial, informal support or a listening ear if you become aware of a student facing a wellbeing issue, and subsequent actions to take if necessary.
Serious concerns should always be reported and students signposted to specialised support from trained professionals at the University. The guidance provides links and information on the correct ones to use depending on circumstances.
The new webpages can be easily accessed from the In Focus sidebar, on the right side of the Staff Portal homepage.
