Campus security over summer
16 August 2022
A reminder about basic security measures, particularly while campus is quiet.
During August and September, lots of colleague use the opportunity to take some leave. This means campus is quieter than usual, and it makes security more important than ever when there are fewer ‘eyes and ears’ on site.
- Please make sure you close all windows and doors securely at the end of the day
- Do not allow tailgating at card-only access points
- Where possible, lock offices when unattended and keep all keys secure
- Follow any lone working arrangements for your building
- Don’t leave valuable items on display, either in your car or in buildings
- Don’t leave cars or bikes on campus overnight (except where bikes are in secure storage)
- Lock the frame of your bike to a secure point and whenever possible include the wheel(s), particularly if they are quick release, or take them with you
Advise Security of anything usual
If you see anyone behaving suspiciously do not approach but please let our Security team know on (0)118 378 6300, and be sure to call the Police on 999 if you believe a crime is in progress.
The Security team provide security patrols, CCTV monitoring, emergency response and a 24-hour control room, striving to maintain a safe and secure environment across the University's sites. They also provide a free chaperone service for colleagues (as well as students and visitors) if you feel insecure at night, for example, when making your way back to your car.
