The 93% Club at Reading - Your support wanted
28 April 2022
The University of Reading is delighted to announce that we have a new student-led society committed to supporting underprivileged students at Reading.
The 93% Club at Reading aims to bring social and professional empowerment to underrepresented students at the University of Reading, with a focus on students coming from state education. The 93% Club at Reading operates within the network of a nationwide social mobility foundation, the 93% Foundation aimed at levelling the playing field, by empowering state-school students personally, and also with the skills needed to succeed in the professional world.
Founded in the 2022 spring term with the support of the University’s Careers Service, the new elected committee aims to bridge the educational divide between state and private-school students. They want to create a community where all students from more disadvantage backgrounds feel welcomed at university regardless of their prior schooling and/or socio-economic background, and support students in achieving their post-university career goals.
They are keen to work in partnership with Schools and academic colleagues to provide opportunities, networking events, careers workshops and employers’ talks and upskill those students who may not have access to a wider social network to progress further in their chosen career paths.
If you would like to know more about the 93% Club at Reading or want to explore how you can work with them to improve social mobility please get in touch with the society’s president Drew Taylor by emailing him at drew.taylor@student.reading.ac.uk
