Parking in local streets
07 December 2021
Colleagues are reminded to avoid parking on local streets, if they are driving to one of our campuses. This can inconvenience our local community and, in recent weeks, we have seen an increase in complaints from them.
Some of the complaints relate to cars parked partly on pavements, causing problems to wheelchair users, those visually impaired or those using a pram or a buggy. Others relate to cars blocking entrances or exits to property, causing problems to for those who live there.
If you are a regular car user, we would encourage you to purchase a car permit to park in our car parks.
If you are an occasional car user, we would encourage you to consider sustainable travel options like cycling, walking or using public transport.
Cycling and walking are great ways to improve fitness and some of the most sustainable ways to travel. The University offers free Dr Bike maintenance sessions, free cycle training and low cost bike hire so you can try cycling before committing to buying a bike.
We also work in partnership with Reading Buses to offer discounted bus tickets. The Sustainability Services webpage has lots of information and advice on transport options.
On days that this is not possible or practical, you can use the Pay and Display option in Car Park 1A, which has enough spaces for the occasional user.
