Environmental crisis lecture - climate science
Date 04 October 2023
Time 17:00 - 18:30
Location Palmer 103, Whiteknights campus
Event Information
This is the first of a series of lectures on the natural environment and the impact of humans on it, run by student society Reading Environmental Crisis Community (RECC).
Professor Keith Shine (Meteorology) will present the first lecture, on climate science, including the origins and importance of the 1.5C global temperature rise target and why becoming net carbon zero is required to hit any such climate targets.
Everyone is welcome - including staff, students and members of the public.
Talks will continue every other Wednesday, and cover topics such as food systems and energy supply.
The talks are intended to be accessible for people who might not be familiar with these topics but want to know more. They should also be exciting for those who are already familiar with these issues to hear new perspectives and discuss them with likeminded people.
About RECC
RECC is a group run by Reading PhD students, whose aim is to learn, campaign and create a community of people centred around environmental topics.
